The Jürgen Ponto foundation has been awarding work grants to young artists since 2003. Within the framework of their grants, David Polzin and Jeronimo Voss – the recipients of the years 2010/11 and 2012/13 – will present their works in two successive exhibitions at the MMK Zollamt.


Hélio Oiticica

The Great Labyrinth

In the autumn of 2013, the MMK will feature the most comprehensive retrospective of the work of Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica (1937–1980) ever staged. To be shown in Frankfurt following presentations in Brazil and Portugal, this overview will encompass works from all phases in the career of the most important Brazilian artist of the post-war era.

Städel Graduates 2013

Hélio Oiticica at Palmengarten

As part of the retrospective "Hélio Oiticica. The Great Labyrinth" at MMK, the Palmengarten will show three outside installations by the Brazilian artist. In one of the pavilions "Penetrável PN 14" a performance and film program will present interventions by contemporary artists.


Jewyo Rhii

Walls to Talk to

This solo exhibition will be the first to present the work of Korean artist Jewyo Rhii (b. 1971) to a broad public in Germany. Her work mirrors the influences of the constant movement between Asia, America and Europe as well as her poetic and humorous observations of human conditions and its ability to make itself at home in surroundings.


Franz West

Where is my Eight?

The exhibition at the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst will provide comprehensive insight into the oeuvre of Franz West, Austria’s internationally most successful artist, who was distinguished with the honorary Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 2011 Venice Biennale. Franz West died unexpectedly in July 2012.

Safe Frame

Between September 2012 and May 2013, the artist Danica Dakić (b. 1962) is working with twentythree grant recipients of the Crespo Foundation to develop the work "Safe Frame", a video and sound installation exploring questions of identity and history, safety and freedom.


Rineke Dijkstra

The Krazy House

"The Krazy House" will be the first comprehensive filmic retrospective of the Dutch artist’s work worldwide. In dialogue with the MMK collection, film rooms and selected photographs by Dijkstra will be featured throughout the museum’s interior. 


Andrea Büttner

The Documenta artist Andrea Büttner (b. 1972) takes a critical look at the topic of poverty in her work. She examines how a sense of shame brought about by poverty affects aesthetic processes, and inquires into the relationships between conceptions of poverty in the art of the Late Modernist era, for example "Arte Povera", and the poverty movements of the Middle Ages as exemplified by the voluntary poverty of religious orders.


Carsten Nicolai

unidisplay / uni(psycho)acoustic

The MMK is presenting two works by Carsten Nicolai (b. 1965) revolving around various aspects of human perception and making their mechanisms experienceable – "unidisplay" and "uni(psycho)acoustic".
